That's good progress, but now we've got to lean on the rest of you a little.

We're most likely going to send at least part of our staff to the bowl game by car, and believe me, we'd prefer to do that in something a little better than we now have.

If you haven't already participated in our fundraiser, today would be a REALLY good day. That's right, I'm looking at you. You've procrastinated, but now is a REALLY good time.

I’ve got to leave it at that out of respect to Urban and the school. This is not my style to be out there in public like this. It’s to be discreet. Those folks [ESPN] have made a decision. I'm so disappointed that ESPN would go forward with something like this."

"In the spirit, we've tried to keep them in the loop, they've jumped the gun a couple of times. It's most unfortunate."

the-Ozone Announcement: We promised an update on the progress of our fundraiser last week, but in view of the news, and especially in view of the nature of that news, we thought it would be appropriate to wait a week.

As of November 5 a total of 110 individuals had donated to the fund raiser. Those donations totaled 5,977.00 toward our goal of 30,000.00. A few donations have come in since that date, so we are now over 6,000.00, or about 20 percent to our goal. A list of donors is now online and can be seen at this location.

Fundraiser honor roll.

That is a great start, but we still have a long way to go. If you haven't seen our original announcement as to why we are doing this, you can see it by clicking here.

As an update to that announcement, we got a few new dents this week on our trip back to Columbus from Purdue. As we were passing a truck it blew a trailer tire sending a big chunk of tire tread flying. It sounded like a bowling ball hitting the side of the car when it slammed into us and left some very nice new dents. It also scared the hell out of BCast who was sound asleep in the front passenger seat when it happened. It didn't phase Dan Harker, who was just vegetating in the back seat.

If you haven't already done so, today would be a great day to help us out if you can. 110 people sounds like a good number of donors, but more-than 20,000 people will visit this site today. When you look at it that way, 110 is a very small percentage of participants.

the-Ozone Announcement: For the past five years the-Ozone-mobile has been a 2000 Ford Taurus. It has carried us to Buckeye games across the country; as far east as New York and New Jersey, as far south as Florida, and as far west as Minnesota. It wasn't flashy or impressive, but it always got us there.

The list of recent repairs it has taken to keep it on the road lately is long and expensive, but we have kept patching it back together. Now however things have gotten out of control.

The odometer reads slightly over 215,000 miles.

We planned on using the vehicle for another 12 to 24 months, but recent events have led us to the conclusion that at 215,000 miles, the vehicle is no longer reliable and not worth repairing.

Currently, the gas gauge doesn't work (it always reads full), and because the repair involves complete removal of the gas tank, it is nearly 1,000 dollars. We have done without the gas gauge for months and as a result run out of gas three times.

The gas gauge always reads full.

Lately it has begun leaking coolant. That repair itself is simple, but the leak is in a place where the entire engine must be removed in order to replace one inexpensive gasket. Because of the location, that cost is also over 1,000 dollars as well, and that is a serious problem that cannot be ignored like the gas gauge Additionally, there is now a vibration in the front end that is not a tire or alignment problem, and that too is serious. Lately the starter has become balky, sometimes failing totally, the brakes are making weird sounds, and there is now an engine miss that is most likely caused by a faulty computer module, also an expensive repair.

We just don't feel safe on the road in it anymore, the cost of repairing it is probably more than it is worth, and we aren't budgeted for a vehicle to replace it. That leaves us little choice.

As of today, the-Ozone is announcing the Road To Recovery Fund Raiser to replace our old car.

We need to conduct this campaign now because our heaviest car travel months are now approaching. Football is relatively light with just a handful of away games, but the basketball season is extremely demanding in terms of car travel, so we must act now.

We have not yet begun shopping vehicles, but our needs are for a small van which will accommodate up to four people as well as luggage, laptops and photo gear. Our preference would be a late-model used vehicle that is most likely going to set us back in the range of 20 to 25 thousand.

We have some other things on our wish list (camera and video upgrades, software, etc.), so we are setting a goal of raising 30,000 dollars with this fundraising effort.

You can contribute via Paypal by using the donate button below. If you prefer to donate by check, you can mail to the address below.

Help keep us on the road so we can continue to bring you Buckeye coverage, home and away.

October 7, 2011 8:15 PM

Football: The NCAA has issued the following statement.

INDIANAPOLIS-- Ohio State University football student-athlete Devier Posey must sit five games and repay benefits after receiving approximately $720 from a booster for work not performed, according to a decision today by the NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff. Posey also accepted approximately $100 in golf fees from another individual, which is a preferential treatment violation.

Three additional Ohio State football student-athletes – Marcus Hall, Melvin Fellows and Daniel Herron – will miss one game and must repay benefits after receiving pay for work not performed from the booster.

In response, OSU Director of Athletics Gene Smith has issued the following:

“I am extremely disappointed with the NCAA’s decision regarding Devier Posey. This penalty is harsh considering the nature of the violation and the five game suspension already served by this student athlete.”
