Buckeyes in the NFL

NFL teams finalized their practice squads Sunday. That brought good news for some former Buckeyes, and not-so-good news for others. Here is a look at where the former Buckeyes landed.

2011 Draftees

Linebacker Ross Homan, who was chosen in the sixth round and later cut by the Minnesota Vikings, was the only former Buckeye who was drafted and did not make his team.

Chimdi Chekwa (Raiders), Cameron Heyward (Steelers), Jermale Hines (Rams), Brian Rolle (Eagles) and supplemental draft choice Terrelle Pryor (Raiders) are all listed on their team’s 53-man roster, although Pryor must serve a five-game suspension.

Undrafted Rookie Free Agents

Receiver Dane Sanzenbacher made the Bears’ squad and long-snapper Jake McQuaide made the Rams.

Brandon Saine (Packers) and Justin Boren (Ravens) each made their team’s practice squad.

Falling short of the cut were Bryant Browning (Panthers), Dexter Larimore (Saints) and Devon Torrence (Vikings).

Others

Plenty of former Buckeyes landed with different teams this offseason.

Nate Clements ended up with the Bengals, Na’il Diggs signed with the Chargers, Larry Grant and Donte Whitner moved to the 49ers.

Ben Hartsock will play for the Panthers, Michael Jenkins was inked by the Vikings, and Darrion Scott and Doug Worthington made the Redskins, although Worthington is currently listed on the practice squad.

Former Buckeyes who played in the NFL last season, but are not currently listed on an NFL roster include: Vernon Gholston (cut by Bears), Thaddeus Gibson and Anderson Russell (cut by Redskins). Roy Hall (released by Colts last season and now plays for the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL), Donnie Nickey (not re-signed by Titans), Aaron Pettrey (released by Bengals last season), Jay Richardson (not re-signed by Seahawks), Robert Rose (cut by Dolphins), Ray Small (released by Colts), Troy Smith (not re-signed by 49ers and now plays for the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL), Mike Vrabel (retired from Chiefs), Matt Wilhelm (not re-signed by Packers), and Ashton Youboty (cut by Buccaneers).
