Quarterback Drew Brees broke Dan Marino’s single-season NFL record for passing yards Monday night, but it was safety Malcolm Jenkins who helped the Saints clinch the AFC South division title.

With 5,087 yards this season, Brees eclipsed Marino’s record by three yards as New Orleans defeated Atlanta 45-16.

With just over 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter and the Falcons within two scores, linebacker Scott Shanle stripped Atlanta receiver Julio Jones. Jenkins’ 30-yard fumble return put the game away.

Jenkins, who played at Piscataway (N.J.) High School, finished the game with two passes defensed and no tackles. Jenkins’ 76 tackles rank second among Saints, trailing only safety Roman Harper’s 92.

A pair of former Buckeyes combined for another game-clinching strip and fumble recovery on Saturday.

With the Seahawks trailing the 49ers by two points with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, linebacker Larry Grant stripped quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. Safety Donte Whitner recovered at the San Francisco 36-yard line to secure the 19-17 victory for the 49ers.

Grant, filling in for injured All-Pro Patrick Willis, tied NaVorro Bowman for the team lead in the game with 12 total tackles.
