Fifteen hundred campers reported today for the second session of
OSU's all-position youth camp.
This is the second of two sessions of the all-position camp. Session
one ended yesterday, and it too attracted around 1,500 campers, making
this one of the largest camps that OSU has every run.
While there are certainly many participants on hand that look the
part of football players, the camp is not intended as a camp simply
for elite players or players intent on showing their wares for college
coaches. The focus of camp is on teaching players of all sizes, skill
levels and ages.

Participants of all sizes arrived wearing tee-shirts identifying
them as coming from various parts of not only Ohio, but other states
as well. The coaches for the camp were of varied backgrounds as well,
ranging from mid-major Division I college coaches from schools like
Toledo, Akron, and Miami of Ohio, to high school coaches not only
from Ohio, but from out of state as well.
Some of the high school coaches were familiar faces, including Rich
Rios from Toledo Rogers, Tedd Ginn Sr. from Cleveland Glennville and
Sonny Spielman, formerly a high school coach in Ohio who now coaches
both football and track in Florida, and yes, Sonny did have a couple
of sons of his own who were pretty fair football players, one of whom
played for Ohio State and later in the NFL and may have actually heard
of.
We'll have more from the youth camp tomorrow.
