O-Zone Helps Bucks Visit USS Columbus
Buckeyes have a little fun while in Hawaii
by John Porentas

The OSU basketball team has traveled all the way to Hawaii to play in the Rainbow classic this month, and though the Bucks have worked hard on the trip, they did have some time for sightseeing. The O-Zone is proud to have played a small part in assisting the Buckeye hoopsters in having a good time while in the Pacific. Some months ago, O-Zone reader Fred Dohse emailed us about a little change of address he had. Beside being a loyal O-Zone supporter, Fred is a U. S. Naval officer who had been assigned to the White House as an advisor to the National Security Council. Fred was transferred to Hawaii, where he now commands three squadrons of nuclear attack submarines, one of which is the USS Columbus. Fred sent the O-Zone staff official USS Columbus hats, photos of The Columbus, and an invitation to tour the boat if we are ever in Hawaii. Since Mr. Ed is stuck here in snowy Columbus this December, he thought it might be cool if Fred could host the OSU Basketball team while they were in Hawaii. Mr. Ed contacted the OSU basketball program, and found that they were indeed interested in touring the boat. OSU director of basketball operations Randy Shrout emailed Fred Dohse, the arrangements were made, and the Bucks did in fact have the opportunity to tour an actual working nuclear attack boat while they were in Hawaii. Fred Dohse was kind enough to send us some pictures of the Bucks as they toured the sub. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
